原子力の基礎をなす核分裂を20世紀において発見した物語は、私たちを本当にワクワクさせます。多くの科学者が発見を目前にしながら失敗しました。おもしろいことに、有名な男性科学者が多くの失敗を重ねる一方で、リーゼ・マイトナーをはじめとする少数の優れた女性科学者が素晴らしい貢献をしていました。ただし彼女たちは、十分な評価を受けたとは言えませんでした。
スウェーデン、チャルマース工科大学のイムレ・パージット教授と、ポーランド、クラコフ教育大学のヌ・タルナフスカ ホア キム・ガン教授は、このたび、この魅力的な科学史の１ページを本にまとめました。そしてその日本語訳が、日本とスウェーデンの国交150周年を記念して、昨年に出版されました。今回の研究講座では、その発見の物語と、執筆や翻訳の経緯についてのお話をうかがいます。

The discovery of nuclear fission in the last century, which is the basis of nuclear power, is a true thriller. Many scientists were close to discover it, but missed. Interestingly, most of the mistakes were made by famous men, whereas a couple of brilliant women scientists, most notably Lise Meitner, made outstanding contributions, but did not get a proper acknowledgement.
Profs. Imre Pazsit (Chalmers University, Sweden) and Nhu-Tarnawska Hoa Kim-Ngan (Pedagogical University, Poland) wrote a popular science booklet about this fascinating piece of science history. A Japanese edition of the booklet was published last year, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Sweden. At the seminar, one of the authors will tell the story of the discovery, as well as how the book was written and translated.
The participants will receive a free copy of the book. The seminar will be followed by a small reception.
